DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/14 January) – A Filipino-Danish professional mix martial arts fighter will conduct a “rare” seminar about the sport in this city on January 23 – 24.
Multi-titled fighter Ole “Irin Fist” Baguio Laursen of Copenhagen, Denmark will discuss the drills and techniques of Muay Thai, a hard martial art from Thailand, at the Holiday Gym and Spa along Torres Street.

“He was 15 years old when he started practicing Muay Thai, “said organizer Dr. Vincent Vicente of multi-titled Laursen during the Davao Sportswriters Association Forum Thursday.

Laursen won the International Muay Thai Council (IMTC) Super Welterweight World Champion in 2000, the same year he clinched the International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) Pro Light Middleweight Muay Thai European Championship in St. Helens, England.

He copped his IKF title by defeating hometown fighter Eval Denton via unanimous decision.

Laursen, who operates his own gym in Thailand, will be joined by two Brazilian Jujitsu practitioners Wictor Dahlstrom of Sweden and Brazilian Eduardo Bezerra in the two-day affair.

They will tackle Brazilian jujitsu, which is a martial art and a combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting.

“This seminar will help Davao MMA practitioners to be more competitive,“ said Vicente, who just arrived from Chicago, Illinois.

Vicente said the MMA practitioners in Davao City are “competitive fighters” but that they just lack exposure.

“This is a rare opportunity for MMA practitioners, fanatics and fans to have a full two- day seminar on different techniques that can be used in the ring, “he added.

Around 50 participants have already signified interest to join the seminar. Registration is pegged at P2,000. (Rico Biliran/MindaNews)
